+1000 to this piece, Elizabeth. I do not like daylight savings and you’ve highlighted why.
I am currently taking care of two dogs, and they have been so confused as I’ve had to adjust their meal and walk times. :(
I’m curious, have you read or heard a book called Ishmael by Daniel Quinn? On the topic of humans trying to master time…it argues that we try to master mother nature (and the implications of it). It’s a fascinating, mind-expanding read, and it’s one of my favorites :)
Thank you for sharing the recipe, too. It looks lovely! I enjoy making an effortful, albeit not too fancy or difficult, breakfast for myself and my partner most mornings (often Turkish-inspired). I’m grateful for the privilege I have to do that. I try not to rush it, but I know I am guilty of that sometimes. I’d like to try these pancakes soon :)
And what are the odds?? Of all the books in the world, I am just about to start Ishmael, as it’s up next for my bookclub. Now I absolutely can’t wait to dive in. I will report back on what the group thinks!
The dratted time change! Gets me at least once every single time with missed appointments or mismatched communication. The pancakes sound lovely, Elizabeth. Tangy and sweet is a wonderful combo.
I had no idea DST started with an entomologist wanting more time to study bugs!
Just a small note: chickpea and egg tagine isn't something we typically eat for breakfast in Morocco. We usually have msemen or khobz with honey, olive oil. Also eggs...or a split pea soup during winter.
The Nordic crepes sound wonderful. I will definitely try them.
Why we always want to go against nature is beyond me. I guess to show who's the boss. I've never understood the rationale of Daylight Savings Time and vote for scrapping it for good. Thank you for talking about this, Elizabeth.
Drives me crazy. We humans have a penchant for always making the wrong decision 🙃. Hopefully we’ll both be around to see the pendulum of reason start swinging in a better direction!
I've been sullen about the darkness descending at 3 pm here...I'm a late in the day creature. Those delicious pancakes perhaps will give me the mood boost!

Thank you so much for your note Leslie 💕

The assault on our systems is undeniable; however, I’m in the camp of DST… love those light-filled summer nights [for dinners on the patio].
Given the incompetence of Congress and swelling trends, I suspect DST will soon be a distant memory.
I had no idea daylight savings time was so some dude could study bugs for a little longer!
Loving these crepes, I can see myself making these for brunch on the weekend.
Right?? And that it became so entrenched is even more mindboggling.
Do try them Shell—they’re easy and lovely, especially with the pomegranate seeds💕
Absolutely, I mean, how???
They look delightfully fresh. I am looking forward to it.
I'm with you on the time changes! And that recipe looks gorgeous!
So easy! More like a crepe.
Thanks for the timely history (Arizona is also a place that defies time, so to speak) and the intro to quark. Definitely I need to check this out.

Me too! Especially when we “spring back”. Message me when you’re back and we’ll connect on the Retreat 💕
Sure, I’m excited about working on a Spices session with you. I’ll be back in the US on Dec 6th.

I’ve never heard of these pancakes before but now I absolutely want to make them! And yes, I wish we’d just leave the clocks alone.
They’re delicious and easy. I love them with pomegranate seeds—adds the right amount of sweet-tart flavour.

They will 😊
Oh yes please!
