John Dewey coined learning by doing and, in my opinion, it truly is the essence of what it means to truly understand. I’m with you, diffing in the dirt and kneading the dough are the things that may be messy but worth doing.

I love this salad!! One of my springtime entertaining favorites. His snap pea & pickled cherry salad (a few pages away) is also excellent

I have to admit I'm kinda obsessed with this cookbook. I could do a whole Substack devoted to it. But “Just Joshua” doesn’t quite have the right ring 😂. Will try the cherry salad when they come into season!

Great to see a post of a messy salad…we don’t get to see the veg peels littering the cutting board, the stacked pots in the sink or the crumbs on the floor that you point out are real signs of cooking
