Eliz-your note is a brilliant, dare I say clinical deconstruction of the hospital experience. This should be expanded into a guidebook for every potential patient who has the need to be in a hospital environment. It is never strictly enjoyable but you point out so well that it can have meaning and positive emotion which ultimately aids recovery and gets one home in the shortest possible time.
And what I would add to this are the essentials that everyone should bring to the hospital, including but not limited to: a warm bathrobe and cozy socks; a heating pad; bone broth that your plus-one can bring you when you're on liquids and the only options available are Jell-O and apple juice; and lip balm and hand and feet lotion 💕
Small human gestures that multiply into something much greater than the gesture itself. This is such a beautiful true thing. And also, there are those who seem to provoke others to towards these kindnesses. You are one of those people. I love that there are people in your world who are caring for you in large and small ways, and the reason for it is because you inspire the best in all of us.
Elizabeth, you are such a gift, as is your writing. So glad to hear you are home, surrounded by love, and on the mend. It's been a long time since I've worked in a hospital setting, but your words transported me back in a moment. It's truly amazing "how those moments of kindness that slip between the gears" can make all the difference—to patients and healthcare workers alike.
Thank you Michelle, for your thoughtful note. It’s an imperfect practice to be kind when all we really want to do sometimes is scream in frustration! Awareness is the first step, isn’t it?
Thank you for sharing this experience. Elizabeth. I have been thinking of you and am sending positive healing energy. Glad to hear you're back home where you can be wrapped in warm, cozy blankets.
Aw Elizabeth, sending you so much love and recovery vibes. I am glad you are home now, and you were treated with kindness and pastel de nata in hospital.
I love the concept of the multiplier effect and will now bring it into my day.
This is so beautiful, Elizabeth. I'm glad that you're back home now, and healing.
Thank you Barb 🙏🏻
Food is healing, so you've healed all of us many times. Hope recovery is smooth and quick.
Glad you arre on this side of things...wishing you a quick healing (those pastels are wonderful- and the sweet bread- spoil yourself!)
Sending healing energy, Elizabeth! So glad you are home and so wonderfully cared for. xx

Awwww....that's a balm to my spirit Rebecca! Right back at you 💕
Multiplier effect couldn't happen without the initial injection, which seems to have your smiling face on it.
Get well soon!

My darling husband made the soup! He is the master soup maker in our household. Thanks for your well wishes, Sally 💕
