I love the breads they have on the tavole di San Giuseppe, and I really need to make some! It was nice reading about things so familiar to me — the feste patronali, onomastici, et cetera ☺️. Thank you!

Oh, these feasts with edible altars. Wherever they don't exist, they should be invented.

Your writing kept a smile on my face from the beginning to the end. It is so much fun to dig into the traditions and foods and the connections between the two.

More of this, please.

Also I can't believe I forgot to mention the onomastico, and that my father was a Giuseppe that didn't celebrate this Festa. I've updated the post now but I really need to move on! 😂

My dad studied in Italy and they called him Giuseppe. Funny, eh?

I was thinking of you when I was writing this. This could have been a very long post but I stopped at San Giuseppe. Lots one could write about here 💕

Oh, yes, and I'd like to read the rest.

But, more importantly: are you awake early to sit at your window and impatiently wait for the signs of spring?

I am!! We had another mini blizzard yesterday yesterday so the ground is white and walking treacherous but my girlfriend tells me she’s seen six robins, so hope springs eternal 😊

Don’t give up hope. I saw 6 robins today.

So interesting! Love the idea of a holiday feast that involves building a food altar--truly my kind of celebration! :) The pasta con le sarde sounds delicious too.

Thanks Kerry! The traditional version with pine nut and currants is really lovely too.

That combination sounds delicious too!!

Just fascinating!

Kalee, I spent a few weeks in Sicily nearly 10 years ago. The food traditions tied to religion are really something to behold!
